Thank You, a million times Thank You!

I was struck in a new way today as I realized HOW MANY contributors it takes to keep a school like College View Academy up and running.  Everyone connected with this school – from the Principal to the preschool parent – contributes so much on a daily basis.  We all work in our own little corner to keep things moving.  So I wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU!

Thank You – to our teachers and staff.  You put your all in to your work at CVA.  You give beyond your best.  You pray for these kids.  You work because your passion is here!

Thank You – to our students.  Yes, you.  Just today I had two guys willingly offer to help me deliver lunch.  Not a big thing.  But each of you, in your own way, helps us with this school.  Your school.  And you do it with a smile.

Thank You – to our churches.  We could not make school work without you!  Your contribution gives us the opportunity to work with these super kids every day!

Thank You – to our parents.  I don’t know where to start.  From workbee, to field trip driving, to cheering at sports games, to financial support, to getting the lunches out, to fund raisers.  I have never worked with a more dedicated group of folks.  Ever.

Thank You – to our volunteers.  Foster Grandmas, supportive friends.  You fill in the gaps for us and it makes a HUGE difference.

Thank You – to our community and families.  I don’t even know you all.  But I know this community prays for our school, invests in our school, and is a big reason that we are here.

Thank You – to our parent groups.  We love you Home & School and PTSO.  I saved you for last, but not because you are least.  Oh no.  Your investment in this school and the kids that walk the halls does not go unnoticed.  You give time, money, talents.  And we are better for it.  We couldn’t do this without you.  And on that note, I head to one more opportunity to say Thank You.  For a lovely  haystack meal provided at the end of a busy day.  Thanks Home & School!

CVA Silent/Live Art Auction

On Sunday evening, October 9 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, we hope that you will join us for the College View Academy Silent/Live Art Auction which will be held in the Heartland Hall at the College View SDA Church.

Come and enjoy this fundraiser featuring the works of Dick Duerksen as well as photography from our returning artist, Terry Schwartz.  There will be a great variety to bid on, including pottery, furniture, photography, a Coach purse, sports gear, a Time Share to Winter Park Ski Resort, gift packs and much more!

Throughout the evening, Jim McClelland will paint a picture to be auctioned off during the Live Auction.  And the Wax Museum will feature our talented 5th graders depicting world renown artists.

In addition, a delicious Olive Garden Dinner Buffet will be served for a small donation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Art Auction Coordinators Tanya Dick (402-202-3455) or Malinda Trumble (402-435-1437).

This is an all-volunteer event to support the remodeling efforts of our school and we thank you for your support!

Come on – everyone’s doing it!

OK – not everyone.  And as a parent of middle school kids I definitely do not advocate peer pressure.  But, I have observed that many of you are taking advantage of one thing………..

Online payments.

Don’t we love them for our house payments, utilities, and other things?  Now, you can take care of school payments as well.  Pay your student account, athletics fee, canoe trip fee – all in one transaction.  This system is provided for us by the North American Division and the feedback from parents is very positive!

To access online payments, simply go to the website (www.cvak12.org), click the menu item “current students”, then click “tuition payments’.  If it is your first visit, you will need to take 3-5 minutes to set up a user account.  You can even specify each of your students as well as their student account number from your statement.  Then, you are ready to go!  Payment methods accepted are:  electronic check (the lowest fee for our school!), visa/mastercard (including debit cards), and Discover.

If you have any questions about setting up or using online payment, please let me know.  I would be happy to help you!

Hope your first week of school was amazing!

Cognitive Genesis Results

Cognitive Genesis is a four-year study that took a close look at the academics at Adventist schools nationwide.  The final results are just becoming available.  Here are five points that summarize the findings from that study:

1. Students are well above average in achievement.

2. Students are above average in ability – but not as much above average as they are in achievement.

3. Students achieve higher than would be predicted based on their ability scores.

4. Students do better the longer they are in Adventist schools.

5. Students score as high or higher in smaller schools.

These are fantastic results and say so much about the quality of education being offered in Adventist schools.  I will share more information about this study over the next several months.

Life is Good!

Here in the Finance Office, life is good!   It is hard to believe that summer is half over, but it is also exciting for us, as staff, to know that our “kids” will soon be back on campus.

I wanted to share with all of you something fantastic that I noticed this week.  Over 20% of our school family has already completed financial registration.  YAY!  And many more of you have contacted me for appointments or have requested your financial agreement by e-mail.  As a reminder, the steps to completing financial registration are:

1)  Complete (or have me send to you) the agreement, sign, and send back to me.

2)  Send payment of registration amount by check or make payment online by August 4.

That’s it!  The benefit to you of registering early is to avoid the financial line at K-12 registration on August 4.  Believe me, I want to see all of you.  But I don’t want to see you needlessly waiting in line.  I know your time and energy is too precious!

On a related note, the deadline for submitting student financial assistance applications is Friday, July 15.  If you have any questions about this process, please call me.  I am happy to walk you through the application process.

My own boys don’t understand this, but I truly cannot wait for school to start again!  I hope all of you are enjoying your summer.  See you soon!

PSI Conference Morning 1

20110621-010439.jpg

It was a great sunrise in Indianapolis and I am excited to start this conference on fundraising. The future of our school depends on us pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone and really connecting with those that desire to support us. Have a great day!
